Albert the Great (Albertus Magnus), the patron saint of scientists and my personal patron saint, wrote a book on astrology called Speculum Astronomiae where he describes how the study of astrology perfects man’s free will. His logic was that the stars affect our bodies through their motion and radiance, but they affect the soul only indirectly. If one understands the motion and radiance of the stars, one can understand their influence on our thinking and not confuse them with our own consciousness.
The philosophy of Endarkened Synapticism is the idea that human perception is flawed by limited knowledge of the external world (the endarkened part) and distorted by our biological nature (the synaptic part). By a thorough understanding of our external world and the way we react to it, we can “perfect our free will” or at least understand our motivations with greater clarity.
I agree that this a not very good or very original philosophy, but people seem to think one way or the other and don’t synthesize the simultaneous multiple uncertainties in human understanding.
